Breathe new life into your old iPod - Make it an external drive
Breathe new life into your old iPod | RedRodger.com Campus Madison WI
instead of coughing up the extra cash for a USB jump drive or external hard drive, why not breath new life into your old iPod by converting it into a combination of the two?
Putting your iPod into “Disk Mode” opens it up for use as a USB drive, and allows you to store basically anything on it:
1. Connect your iPod and computer, via the USB cable.
2. Restart your iPod before putting it into Disk Mode (hold switch must be off).
3. Press and hold the following combination (listed below) simultaneously for 15 seconds to reset your iPod. iPod 1G to 3G (scroll & touch wheel iPods): "Menu" and "Play/Pause" iPod 4G+ (Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select Center Button"
4. As soon as you see the Apple logo, release, and hold down the "Fast Forward" and "Rewind" buttons. This will put your iPod into Disk Mode (if your iPod did not mount on your computer, restart the computer).
5. Your iPod is now in Disk Mode, and should say so on the top of the iPod's screen. It should also be flashing the "Do not disconnect" icon.
6. Now you can surf the Internet and load it with portable apps, and begin to save all your photos, files, and music to your new portable disk drive.
