Spider Web Engulfs Texas Park Trail

POINT — Entomologists are debating the origin and rarity of a sprawling spider web that blankets several trees, shrubs and the ground along a 200-yard stretch of trail in a North Texas park.Officials at Lake Tawakoni State Park say the massive mosquito trap is a big attraction for some visitors, while others won't go anywhere near it."At first, it was so white it looked like fairyland," said Donna Garde, superintendent of the park about 45 miles east of Dallas. "Now it's filled with so many mosquitoes that it's turned a little brown. There are times you can literally hear the screech of millions of mosquitoes caught in those webs."

Blogged with Flock – Audio Fingerprinting for Clean Metadata

Phase 1 is now underway with the first public “beta” release of our new fingerprinting technology. This will mature into a nice sexy (free) API that lets you grab clean metadata based on an audio fingerprint. For now, all that it does is send the fingerprint data to bootstrap the moderation system. This doesn’t change any MP3 files on your computer. It does send useful fingerprint data to our moderation system so we can get the ball rolling. If you have a big MP3 collection, it will take a while… Thankfully it remembers where it got to, so you don’t have to do it all in one session. – the Blog · Audio Fingerprinting for Clean Metadata

Easiest Opening Beer Can Ever

Easy Open Can
From the age of the ad and the fact that those are definitely a woman’s hands I think this ad is implying that it will be easier for a wife to open up an ice cold brew for her man when he gets home for work. Ahhhh, the simple times.

Reporter on fashion jaunt finds plenty of baggy britches

The proposed ordinance states that "the indecent exposure of his or her undergarments" would be unlawful in a public place. Atlanta Councilman C.T. Martin, a college recruitment consultant, calls jumbo-sized drawers that show off boxers underneath an epidemic that's becoming a major concern. But Seagraves said any legislation that creates a dress code would not survive a court challenge.

Cardboard cops slow speedsters

Earlier this month, the city commissioned a life-size, corrugated plastic cutout of Miller, posing with his radar gun, a menacing scowl on his face. They post the cutout in high-traffic areas, hoping that it will deter speeders."It's meant to get people to think about it and slow down. It's actually worked," said Miller, the head of Smyrna's traffic enforcement division.

Does the average person consume four spiders per year in his sleep?

For a spider to get into your mouth while you're sleeping, (a) you must have your mouth OPEN, which is certainly not universal, so there's a big chunk of people who can never swallow anything; (b) there has to be a wandering spider in your immediate vicinity, also something which--for most people in the civilized world, at least--is a fairly rare occurrence; (c) the spider has to either jump or fall into your mouth from a long distance, because they won't go near your mouth otherwise (they're not suicidal), and the odds are pretty astronomical of a spider randomly dropping into your mouth from the ceiling.Put it all together, and it would be a miracle for a spider to end up in anyone's mouth while they're sleeping, except for one rare circumstance--when a spider egg sac hatches indoors.

Pepsi Commercials of the 1980s by The Retroist

In the 1980s the Cola War was raging. Coke was on the defense and Pepsi pulled in a bevy of A-Listers to remind you to drink Pepsi. After all Pepsi was the Choice of a New Generation and who better to represent the new generation then Madonna, Michael J. Fox and Don Johnson?

Digital Funnies: Comics Preservation by Jonathan Barli

Digital Funnies, dedicated to preserving the history of this most neglected of art forms and reintroducing it to scholars and new readers alike. While several well-known titles such as Krazy Kat, Gasoline Alley, and Peanuts are being given their proper due in published form, there is still much of the rich history of comics and cartooning that will more than likely never see print again and worse, fade away with time.

How to Wipe Your Ass

I was curious, so I began to ask around. I posed the question to a couple good friends of mine, and my suspicions were confirmed when each of them came back with an entirely different answer. I decided to dig deeper, asking people via email, message boards, and eventually the Starbucks where my girlfriend works, all to ask the question: how do you wipe your ass?
