Macenstein | Lucasfilm pulls PhoneSaber from the iTunes store![]()
Knowing that George Lucas is perhaps the only person more controlling of his product licensing than Apple’s Steve Jobs, I suppose this news should not exactly come as a shock to anyone, but according to TheMacBox (creators of the wildly popular (and free) PhoneSaber lightsaber emulator), THQ Wireless (who owns the rights for Star Wars apps on mobile devices) has asked that PhoneSaber be removed from the iTunes store.

Ice Cube talks 'A-Team' | Hero Complex | Los Angeles Times![]()
Director John Singleton wants to take on the Reagan-era show “A-Team” and update it, making the fugitive commando team all veterans of the war in Iraq. The grizzled Bruce Willis is in mind for the role of Col. Hannibal Smith (portrayed by George Peppard in the old NBC series) while Woody Harrelson would be wingnut pilot “Howlin’ Mad” Murdock (played by scene-stealer Dwight Shultz in the original). And what about the role of the scowling Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus, made famous by the gold-laden Mr. T?

There are many microblogging services out there. Sometimes you feel you have a “message” to send or a question to ask. If you subscribed many services, one of the first questions arising is: where do I post this? Twitter? Jaiku? Pownce? Tumblr? all of them? For each service usually you have to: open the browser, login, write message, click post. Although some cut and paste can save you some time, the task can get boring soon. Posty simplifies your microblogging. All you have to do is writing the message and clicking a button. Posty will automatically deliver your message to the services you selected.Currently supported networks are: Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Tumblr, Friendfeed and the recently added Identi.ca. I'm Learning To Share!: Larry Storch Reads Philip Roth's 'Epstein'![]()
'Epstein' is a short story that appeared in author Philip Roth's first published book,'Goodbye, Columbus' in 1959. Like the title novella and other short stories in the book, it's theme relates to the concerns of urban American Jews - - specifically in this story, a middle-aged overbearing father and husband with demons of his own.
From the LP 'Larry Storch Reads Philip Roth's Epstein'(original Prestige/Lively Arts release circa 1962, this Prestige LP reissue circa 1969),

Larry Harmon, who appeared as Bozo the Clown for decades and licensed the name to other Bozos around the world, had died at age 83.Harmon died Thursday at his home of congestive heart failure, his longtime publicist, Jerry Digney, told The Associated Press.Although not the first person to play Bozo, Harmon took on the famous clown's persona and, as an entrepreneur, he licensed the character to others, particularly TV stations. Those stations then recruited their own Bozos for local shows.Newsvine - Larry Harmon, longtime Bozo the Clown, dead at 83

Jeffrey Tambor Confirms Arrested Development Movie | Comedy Central Insider - The Comedy Blog for Comedy Fans![]()
Another day, another Arrested Development cast-member claiming the movie is happening. This time it's Jeffrey Tambor, who offered one of the most clear and overt statements on the matter yet. “After months of speculation, I think we have finally figured out for sure that we are indeed doing an Arrested Development movie," Tambor told EW.com at the premiere of Hellboy II on Sunday. "I am very excited about that. I love that cast and crew and I felt like we had more to say.""Finally." "For sure." "Indeed." Those words sound pretty definitive to me. Of course, there's still no studio greenlight as far as anyone knows, but hopefully next week the kid who played Annyong will insist the movie's bound for production.

Martinez said workers had replaced a group of nocturnal lemurs recently with the two new spider monkeys because lemurs rarely came out onto the island during the day.Workers had emptied the moat surrounding Monkey Island for cleaning, thinking the monkeys would stay inside despite the fact no water was there to serve as a barricade.Martinez said one monkey saw a garden hose near the edge and used it to climb up and over the moat wall. He then managed to jump onto the roof of the neighboring water filtration plant.Monkey Business

Rumor: A WebKit-based GBrowser?![]()
In the post The Google Browser from earlier this year, someone going by the name “the Lizard” says that Google is developing its own, WebKit-based browser. Lizard argues that it is strategically dangerous to bet too much on just Firefox, which sends a lot of paid search traffic to Google, and that this made Google start an internal project in mid-2006 titled “GBrowser.”According to the Lizard, GBrowser is built on top of the open source WebKit browser framework

Where do they get those wonderful toys?: 18 obscenely wealthy comic-book and cartoon characters | The A.V. Club![]()
Most billionaire superheroes consider costumed adventuring a higher calling, and think of their fortunes as just a convenient way to finance their mission. Not so Steve Dayton, the fifth richest man in the DC Universe. Obsessed with winning the hand of Rita Farr—The Doom Patrol's Elasti-Girl—Dayton used his wealth to construct a helmet that boosted his brainpower, turning him into the psychokinetic do-gooder Mento. He then married Farr, adopted teenage Doom Patroller Beast Boy, and ensconced them both in a mega-mansion roughly the size of a Las Vegas casino. Later, Elasti-Girl died, Dayton went nuts, Beast Boy changed his name a couple of times, Dayton became a crime lord for a while, a new Elasti-Girl arrived from a parallel dimension, and so on and so on. All of which proves that no matter how much money you have, if you're a minor DC character, nothing can buy your way out of convoluted continuity reboots.

Now just called the EBOX, the system is due to be unveiled at the major Computex show on June 3rd and will buck the Eee PC's past use of flash memory for storage: the stock model will carry a 160GB hard drive that provides it six times as much capacity as the 20GB Eee PC 900. The EBOX will also hold 2GB of RAM, or twice as much as the newer Eee notebooks.

SECRET FUN BLOG: JEAN SHEPHERD- SHEPHERD'S PIE
You know his legendary storytelling from A Christmas Story, but have you ever wondered what Jean Shepherd (1921-1999) has to say about the rest of our annual American rituals? Shepherd was a longtime radio personality and a successful author who's fierce sense of humor, expert wordplay, and uncanny ability to evoke powerful "sense memories" made him a true master of retrospection. Or as he put it— the "pleasant tinglings of mingled regret and exhilaration that we all call nostalgia."Here I'm offering a super-sized album of eight recordings of Jean reading some of his own published "short" stories (perfect for summer listening!) complete with a nifty new "cover" design. Jean serves up laugh-out-loud wit as he guides you through all the places you'd be lucky to visit this summer— the county fair, Saturday matinées at the Orpheum, and the yearly family drive to the cabin by the lake. Shep also covers prom and a devastating fireworks display before concluding with two of his familiar Christmas pieces.

The Paris Review - Reel to Reel
When not pressing the valves on his trumpet or the record button on his tape recorder, Armstrong’s fingers found other arts with which to occupy themselves. One of them was collage, which became a visual outlet for his improvisational genius. The story goes that he did a series of collages on paper and tacked them up on the wall of his den, but Lucille, who had supervised the purchase and interior decoration of their house in Corona, Queens, objected. Armstrong decided to use his extensive library of tapes as a canvas instead, and the result is a collection of some five hundred decorated reel-to-reel boxes, one thousand collages counting front and back. The collages feature photographs of Armstrong with friends.

Movies Through the Eyes of Kids![]()
Once upon a time we were all pretty stupid. It's an unfortunate side effect of being young, impatient, and uncultured. Eventually we grew larger, gained extra limbs, and became adults. But during that horrifying nightmare of youth, with all its jumbled priorities, interests, and miniature attention spans, we saw things remarkably different. With that in mind, the Something Awful Forum Goons took a big pile of movies and edited them to show how they would appear when viewed through the eyes of the typical elementary school kid.
