Google shuts down music blogs without warning

Google shuts down music blogs without warning |
Music |
guardian.co.uk:

"In what critics are calling 'musicblogocide 2010', Google has deleted at least six popular music blogs that it claims violated copyright law. These sites, hosted by Google's Blogger and Blogspot services, received notices only after their sites – and years of archives – were wiped from the internet."

I have to say I was surprised by this headline. Mainly the "Shoot first, ask questions after" mentality. Read the whole article here.

Justin Timberlake to Play Napster Whiz Kid in Facebook Film

Justin Timberlake to Play Napster Whiz Kid in Facebook Film :

"Call me crazy, but I just can’t get excited about The Social Network, the film currently in development about the founding of Facebook. Yeah, I know that David Fincher is directing and Aaron Sorkin wrote the script. And I love both of them. But come on. How is this going to be anything more than a movie about some geeks on computers? So they hit upon a killer idea, strike it rich, get famous. It just doesn’t seem to lend itself to fascinating filmmaking. But hey, I’ve been wrong before."

I know by the date of this link that this is old news. But it was news to me?!

CBC Radio 3 library now on Free Music Archive

Free Music Archive: CBC Radio 3:
"CBC Radio 3 : Breaking New Sound"
Radio 3's podcasts are truly unique: they're full of amazing, 100% Canadian music from new and emerging artists. This is great news for music fans, and it's even better news for independent Canadian musicians.

The Free Music Archive is a great source for Creative Commons indie bands as it is. So this just makes it a little better.

Plumiferos to premiere on February 18th? | BlenderNation:
"the first feature-length movie in Blender – or in Open Source 3D in general.

The project seemed to have died a silent death about a year and a half ago. It now turns out though that a new team of people has finished the movie in secrecy and indications are that it’ll premiere on February 18th."

SoundUnwound - The editable music encyclopedia

SoundUnwound - The editable music encyclopedia: "SoundUnwound is the new editable music encyclopedia from IMDb and Amazon."

It's like last.fm with a few fun features like an editable library. But without the full length tracks which is a bit of a drawback for me. But still kinda fun.

Muziic - Free on-demand music, internet radio and more!

Muziic - Free on-demand music, internet radio and more! - The YouTube Media Player - YouTube Music

Muziic allows you to stream virtually any song or music video on-demand, tune in to hundreds of internet radio stations, and play music and video files from your computer - 100% free and legally. You can even build playlists combining YouTube videos, your local media files, and content from other cloud-based services. Muziic makes extensive use of the YouTube API, forming the web's first ever "YouTube for Music".

In recent years, YouTube has become a popular source for on-demand music and videos. Its free, community-driven approach make it an attractive service for music lovers around the globe.

The Muziic team observed that while YouTube has embraced the music world and signed licensing agreements with all four of the major labels, the YouTube end-user experience had not been optimized for a music fanatic.

And it has a Facebook app so you can just use it there instead of going to the site.

Ping.fm currently boasts 200,000 updates a day from its 500,000 registered members. More than 100 applications already use the Ping.fm API for cross-posting purposes, and although Seesmic will assume full control of the platform, they’re committed to maintaining it and supporting the developer community."

Flight of the Conchords End Their Television Series

JP's Blog: Flight of the Conchords End Their Television Series:

"Flight of the Conchords have announced that they will be ending their television series. They will not have a third season for their television show modeled after fictional versions of themselves. The band posted a statement on their official website. It was written by Jermaine, Brett and co-creator/director James Bobin. This is what the statement said:

we’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jermaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jermaine will continue to exist."

Ustream iPhone App Is Finally Here!

Over the last year, Ustream has sought to extend its reach into the mobile arena, and the company has introduced video-recording and viewing iPhone apps, but its latest offering allows true live broadcasting to multiple viewers. You can begin recording video on your phone, stream it to the Web, and allow any number of people to watch it as it happens. You can include your GPS location with the broadcast as well.

Ustream iPhone App Lets You Stream Live Video - PC World
This is something that I think will make ustream way more useful. I've had an account for years but rarely a chance to use it since you had to be connected to a computer.
