9/11 was nothing, according to new WWF ad
9/11 was nothing, according to new WWF ad: "
Just in time for the anniversary of 9/11 comes this tasteless, nightmarish print ad for the World Wildlife Fund, showing dozens of planes headed for lower Manhattan. See a larger version here. The copy reads: 'The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it.' Unfortunately, respect is the main thing lacking here."

Open Souce FriendFeed in the works
OpenFF![]()
Create a free and open client and server for Friendfeed-like social networks, based of version 2 of the FriendFeed API and consisting of stream aggregation, asynchronus relationships, and serendipitous content discovery.
This would be an awesome thing especially if it were built with laconi.ca included like Evan states in the group post here http://ff.im/6TV2h

Turn readers into listeners, and transform your blog into a high quality, ad-supporting broadcast that can vastly expand your audience reach!
* Automatic podcast generation
* “Near-human” quality text-to-speech
* Listen Button feature deployed in next to no time for WordPress, Blogger, TypePad, BlogEngine.NET and Terapad platforms
* Detailed download statistics * Make money from embedded ads
Add your blog and it lets you create a podcast that reads each post from the site and adds an rss podcast feed to subscribe to.
I was able to do this with my personal blog but there was one post we had here at "Your Daily" of a video we posted that had a french word in the title and it said our blog wasn't in English. So it won't let us set it up.
Trying to fix that but a great idea. I really like it.

KDE's new Plasma netbook interface shines in small places
KDE's new Plasma netbook interface shines in small places - Ars Technica![]()
The KDE netbook project is still in the early prototype stage and will not be ready for the upcoming KDE 4.3 release. Lead Plasma developer Aaron Seigo has listed it in the roadmap for KDE 4.4, which means it could be ready for users in January.
The prototype is an intriguing real-world demonstration of Plasma's versatility and the strength of KDE's architecture. It's also a good example of how creativity and innovation can move Linux beyond traditional desktop paradigms and make it shine in small spaces.
I've been wondering when this was going to happen. I have been stuck using gnome on my netbook for too long. Although from the sound of it I still have a long wait ahead.

Opentape - a free way to make and host your own web mixtape
What is it?Opentape
Opentape is a free, open-source package that lets you make and host your own mixtapes on the web.
Upload songs (via web or FTP), reorder, rename, customize the style, and share what you like on other sites with an embeddable player.
Why?
Sharing your musical taste on the web should be fun and easy. We believe there is no reason it has to stop with the shutdown of a single site, so we've created a free tool to make this possible.
Opentape's creation and design are inspired by Muxtape's success and sleek interface. We were disappointed with its untimely shutdown and wanted the web mixtape movement to continue.

Woman changes name to Princess-Rainbow.com
Woman changes name to Princess-Rainbow.com - UK, News - The Independent:
"A woman from Manchester has become the first person to change her name by Deed Poll to a web domain, according to the Legal Deed Service.
Twenty-four-year-old Claire Forshaw changed her name to Princess-Rainbow.com earlier this week. She had previously been put off changing her name by her boyfriend, 23-year-old Robert Morris, who had tried to dissuade her by claiming it would cost hundreds of pounds.
“I knew that if ever I got the chance I would change [my name] to a web domain, to hopefully become the first. My boyfriend has always told me it cost hundreds of pounds to do, so I just forgot about it,” she told press, adding:
“When I realised it actually cost as little as £10 my boyfriend said that Princess-Rainbow.com was ideal for me because I am mad on rainbows!”"

Film buffs community « filmaster.com
Film buffs community « filmaster.comFilmaster is a new social network for movie fans featuring personalized content and recommendations. And all that free as in beer and as in speech. Filmaster allows you to run your own movie blog in a great domain like you.filmaster.com, rate movies and talk about movies with people whose opinions you care about.
Filmaster is niche by design. We're not even thinking of competing with huge sites like IMDB or RottenTomatoes in terms of number of movies, trailers and pageviews. We're also not going against Flixter -- a MySpace for movies. We chose the hard way. We're creating a place for real movie freaks -- people for who film is not just entertainment. And we want to make Filmaster a place on the web to discuss good movies with people who know what they're talking about.
An open source movie review community site with some great features and I like the interface style. Since my wife runs a theater I think this is something Dexter and I should probably get active on :)
You can follow it's creator Borys Musielakon identi.ca too.

Google Notebook might be closed but Yahoo! Search Pad just opened.
Search Pad (BETA)![]()
Search Pad (BETA)
Search Pad is a note-taking application that automatically tracks and organizes sites you find on Yahoo! Search to help you complete important tasks such as buying a car or planning a trip. Find out more here.
I am/was a huge fan of Google Notebook. This seems to be the same concept without the browser plugin. It revolves mainly around bookmarking, which was what Google seemed to claim as the downfall of their version.

IE6 needs YOUR help
These days we are inundated with bloated web browsers that overcomplicate our lives. However, there is one eminent exception: IE6.
It has been around since 2001 and is still one of the most powerful and versatile browsers available.
Ok. I'll admit, at first I thought this site was for real. But then for the heck of it I tried to follow the download instructions. :)
