Myst Online goes open source, fans to make their own worlds![]()
When GameTap shut down the servers for MystOnline: UruLive earlier this year, it was a major disappointment for the small, but dedicated, fan base the game had acquired over the years. Those fans will now have a chance to shape the future of the game, as developer Cyan Worlds has announced that the source code for the title will soon be released, giving fans the ability to mold and update the now-open source game as they see fit.

Although it only lasted three seasons on ABC, "The Greatest American Hero" still has quite a loyal following 25 years after its untimely cancellation. You can't keep a good television superhero down, however, and Ralph, Pam and Bill Maxwell are making a comeback in comic book form.

If I Die A Bacon-Related Death, I'd Like It To Be Because Of This | www.holytaco.com![]()
Who would have thought that simply weaving bacon together like a basket, covering it in cheese, and rolling it up into a cannister looking thing, would be the thing that finally made me so "I don't know if I can eat this." Although, I quickly followed that statement with "I'd like to try and see if I can eat this."

Turning the iPod Touch into a phone | Apple - CNET News![]()
The MP3 player can be transformed into a mobile phone with the help of a free app from Internet telephone company Truphone. The new app allows users with a Wi-Fi connection to make and receive phone calls via voice over IP with other iPod Touch owners, users of the Google Talk's messaging service, and customers of Truphone's Internet telephone service. The company said it expects to add the ability to handle landline calls. The app creates a virtual keyboard on second-generation iPod Touchs to dial calls and requires the addition of a headset and microphone. However, Apple doesn't appear to be too threatened by Truphone; the application is available for free download at Apple's App Store.

Hey You Guuuuyyyys! A New Electric Company Starts in January! | Geekdad from Wired.com![]()
The new Electric Company will feature a group of four culturally-diverse teens—Lisa, Keith, Jessica, and Hector—who have powers to make and manipulate words in (educationally) cool ways. From a natural-foods diner, somewhere in New York City, they fight word crimes, particularly those of the mischevious (but not truly evil) Pranksters. Each episode will tell a story featuring these characters, with animated and live-action phonics lessons sprinkled in here and there, focusing on vocabulary. That's something the original show didn't really do, but that's another sign of the times, since PBS Kids' research has shown that kids today need a lot of help on that front. They have also, as with the original, made sure to make the show funny, because they know they'll hold kids' interest a whole lot better if they do. And there will, again, be someone in a gorilla suit making occasional appearances. (There've been rumors of Rita Moreno making a cameo on the new show, and I'm holding out a little hope for Morgan Freeman and Bill Cosby, too.)

Send Me Pennies
the goal of this site is to collect One Million Pennies ( 3.2 tons ) and try to spend them on a single purchase in a single day. Now this is where the fun comes in. Once I receive these One Million Pennies, I will get a film crew together and begin the adventure. I will begin by finding an armored truck service to carry the weight of the pennies. This won't be easy, because I will have to pay for it in pennies. Next, I will drive to a business and make a deal to purchase an item at the value of the leftover pennies. When the deal is ready to close and it comes time to pay, I will direct them to the parking lot where the money is. They can then decide if making the sale is worth the expense of trying to cash in and sort all those coins. Most business would be out of their mind to incur that cost.

The other day someone was saying the sentence, "I'll send that to you" but paused on "I'll" and it sounded like, "a la". And my first reaction was to say "A la peanut butter sandwiches!" Then I asked him, who used to say say that? One internet search later I had my answer and found out the Muppets have a wiki too.
The Amazing Mumford - Muppet Wiki![]()
The Amazing Mumford is a talented magician, but his magic tricks sometimes go awry. His characteristic magic words are "A la peanut butter sandwiches!" After saying this, there is a puff of smoke usually accompanied by either a "poof" noise or magical tinkling sounds, and then after clearing, it reveals how the trick has gone wrong.Grover often appears as Mumford's over-eager assistant.

Even on a modern editing system, this would be a very complex project. Sid had something better at his disposal than a computer, a tape recorder, or a 16mm camera... He had his wits.MultiframeThe rewards for "Multiple Sidosis" stretch beyond scholarly infamy, and it's more than just a cult oddity. In 2000 the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation as being culturally significant (the same year as "Apocalypse Now" & "Shaft"). Better still - Sid can enjoy his notoriety in person. He just celebrated his 100th birthday, and he's still creating films.Hi-Fi Audio - Retro Thing

In 1966, it was a regular occurrence for a rock or pop star to make a guest appearance on the popular (and even forgotten) television series’ of the day (check out our Cameos section for further proof). Batman was no exception, and through the course of its three-year run, the program featured such disparate musical acts as Liberace, Leslie Gore, Chad & Jeremy, Johnny & The Greenmen, and the great Paul Revere & The Raiders. On the contrary, the popular (and even forgotten!) musical acts of the day tried to capitalize on the show’s meteoric success by recording songs inspired by the program, whether they be parodies, tributes, or ditties aimed at a young audience.

Comic Book Resources > CBR News: Making Batman Braver & Bolder![]()
“Batman: The Brave & The Bold” debuts on Cartoon Network on November 14 at 8:00 pm EST/PST and teams Batman with a laundry list of fan favorite and cult characters from DC Comics’ pantheon, including Plastic Man and Metamorpho.“I’m calling in a big, Saturday morning bowl of cereal. It definitely harkens back to simpler times,” producer James Tucker told CBR News.Tucker, whose DC animated credentials stretch back to 1997’s “The New Batman Adventures” and whose most recent credit was as producer on the fan hit “Legion of Super-Heroes,” explained the more light-hearted tenor of “Brave & The Bold” wasn’t just struck upon as a youthful alternative to Christian Bale’s PG-13 growl, but as a way of keeping Batman interesting and relevant in his fourth animated incarnation in the past 15 years.

Flaming Lips' Freaky, Martian Musical Finally Touches Down![]()
As frontman for the Flaming Lips, Wayne Coyne always makes sure his audience gets the most whiz-bang for its buck. At live gigs, that means trotting around inside a giant hamster ball while dozens of Santas and aliens shimmy onstage. And this holiday season it means a feature film. After seven years, Christmas on Mars, Coyne's sure-to-be cult classic, is ready to touch down on October 28. Shot in his native Oklahoma City, the shoestring sci-fi flick is the story of colonists on the Red Planet who are having the worst Yuletide ever. A Christmas baby—who may be the only hope for humanity—gestates in an artificial womb, but the colony's oxygen and gravity systems are failing. Can the savior be saved? Wired talked to Coyne about his directorial debut.

DocPop.org » Blog Archive » Robots Don’t Know Anything About Twitter!![]()
We started at 11am on Saturday and I immediately started drawing robots. Picking up on the theme, I sent a Twitter saying “Robots don’t know anything about ______”. I quickly had over 20 responses, so I decided to try to work suggestions from Twitter into each page of my comic. The resulting 24hr comic, appropriately titled “Robots Don’t Know Anything About Twitter“, is a mix of pop culture references with a nerdy slant. As is the nature of any improvised art, some parts are better than others, but I can state for a fact that every single joke is funny… If you don’t get any of the references or jokes within, then I’m sorry to inform you that you must be a robot.
